In this article, We make clear the biggest launch of the century when selecting a clothing manufacturer, compound regulations, material quality and managing the product development and production process.

Irrespective of whether you're an apparel startup company looking to try away a new products, or consider yourself another Karl Lagerfeld, this article is packed with actionable advice for you. However, I am going to make clear why buying inexpensive clothing from China is rarely an option.

Essential factors when selecting a clothing and textile stock

Not all Clothing and textiles manufacturers are even. Making a random stock selection online, without validating that the supplier can reach your quality requirements, is likely to wrap up in disaster. Below employs an introduction to the three main factors that actually matters, when selecting clothing manufacturers in China.

#1: Substance control and conformity with foreign textile polices

Clothing textiles are governed in most countries, including the United states of america, Europe and Australia. Most applicable protection standards, such as REACH (Europe)and FHSA (United States) regulate substances, such as formaldehyde, AZO-colors and the product.

#2: Textiles labeling requirements

Clothing and textile rules are not only constrained to substances, but also product and packaging labels. These labeling requirements fluctuate greatly between different countries. Yet , most countries require labeling to cover Nation of Origin (Made in China), textile fiber content and washing instructions.

On the other hand, a supplier cannot really be compliant or non-compliant with labeling requirements.

Found in fact, it's your job to develop the textile labeled, and verify that is actually compliant with applicable restrictions in your country. The supplier's job is to print it. That said, they must be able to offer you information about the textile fiber content and washing instructions.

#3: Fabric quality

Good suppliers provide high quality textiles and bad suppliers provides low quality fabrics. Ideal? It's not that simple. A couple of years ago I learnt that myself, the hard way.

In 2011, i was tasked with managing the item development process of a new polo shirt collection for an European brand. They'd already selected a new supplier in the southern Fujian province to manufacture their new designs.

It was a good supplier. Clean facility, long history, plenty of capital, modern machinery and a strict quality management system.

One method that we have applied more in recent times, is to source two models of suppliers:

1.    Apparel company
2.    Fabrics supplier

Depending on the apparel manufacturer in regards to selecting fabrics and other materials is very time-consuming, especially given that textiles must be felt.

In other words, it can be hard to communicate cloth quality requirements to a supplier, and it can take weeks or even months of emailing back again and forth to get the correct fabric selections.

A better option, if you have specific cloth requirements, is to get a fabric supplier and order samples directly from them. The fabrics distributor will then ship the materials to the clothes manufacturer in time for production.
